Making Space Project

Listen
"Making space is a collection of songs that intend to create sacred space. It’s a tool for congregations and groups to sing together, as well as for individuals.  This album includes  Nathanael Ankeny, Dan Anthony, Wendy Goodwin, Ben Macy, Travis Morgan, and Nicole Nelson with  art by Brandon Buerkle Released May 2012."  ~Nate Macy

What a great project to be involved in. I enjoy seeing a project build into something amazing. All the musicians on this project are top notch. Even though we didn't work hand in hand it was great to see how everyone brought their "A" game to the mix. Thinking back on this project it makes me smile to see where it ended up at. When I first got the call from Nate Macy asking me if I would track drums for his new project, I was excited but curious to see how it would work, I only knew a few of the songs and didn't know how traditional Nate was wanting to make them. After two songs in I knew that this was gonna be a great album. We bounced ideas back and forth and purposely made space for all the other artists. That was probably one of the hardest parts for me, I wanted to leave enough space and do some fills that would compliment the album, but how do you do that when it's only drums and guitar playing live? Instinct is the word that comes to mind. Let me say that when I had heard what the other artists played on this album I was all smiles. Nate Macy is an outstanding musician and reaches for a higher standard each time we play together. His Guitar and vocals on this album are his best yet, in my opinion. Nate and I are always stretching and challenging each other to become better and better, I love him for that. Nathaniel Ankeny on sax was amazing o the album, he tastefully executed his parts and show what true musicianship is, to say the least. A true sax player is what he is, knows when to play and when not to, and know dynamics, great job. Ben Macy on keys is also an outstanding artist, with his jazz roots his heartfelt playing is dynamite. Ben and Nathaniel played well off of each other and it shows throughout the album. Travis Morgan and Nicole did a great job with backing vocals, and Wendy Goodwin on violin and backing vocals. Wendy is a true artist in her playing, I always enjoy hearing her play, so dynamic and knows when to back out, she truly knows how to become one with her instrument. It was truly an honor and a privlige to work on this project. Artwork for this project was done by Brandon Berkle and what an outstanding picture this paints for us to think about. Special thanks to everyone who donated for this project, financially and through prayers, you're the reason it happened. God Bless You All.
